Joburg Tourism, a directorate of the City’s Department of Economic Development, will work with the Trademark Summit convener to host an exceptional event in Johannesburg in June 2019. With around 500 African and international delegates expected to attend the event, this will set the spotlight on Johannesburg as a preferred business destination.
The City of Johannesburg has been recognized for its rail, air and ground transportation and business and communications technology infrastructure, a variety of accommodation and conference facilities, as well as fascinating tourist attractions, leisure and lifestyle options for visiting delegates.
This year’s SA Fire Summit was presented in Cape Town by South Africa’s Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng. He delivered a keynote address anchored on the preamble to the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa and the values contained therein and served as a good basis for starting discussions. About the potential that still resides in the country, South Africa may still be. Gary Leigh, a brand specialist and founder of Leigh’s Truth and Propaganda, also delivered a paper on the importance of South Africa’s brand.
Other speakers at the summit were Prof Thuli Madonsela, former Public Protector of South Africa, Bonang Mohale, CEO of South Africa’s business leadership, Kganki Matabane, Black Business Council CEO Mteto Nyati, Altron CEO Simon Sussman, Woolworths Chairman, Neeshan Bolton of the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation, and other prominent leaders in corporate South Africa, media, politics, education, sports, community development, etc.
“This is an exciting step for us as we continue the summit as an independent key, and a platform that is not politically influenced to discuss the evolving brand image of South Africa,” said Solly Moeng, top convener, said.
“The event was moved to Johannesburg in response to requests from many delegates and others who attended the first event in Cape Town. The content of 2019 will be more comprehensive and in line with another request from delegates who attended the summit in 2018, to be “A Leaders of the Future Panel Discussion” (comprised of a diverse group of young South Africans with interesting ideas about the South Africa).”
“I am particularly excited that the world-renowned and respected Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba, Associate Professor of Public Law and Founding Dean at Kabarak University School, Kenya, will deliver the keynote address at the 2019 Summit.”
Nonnie Kubeka, the head of the province’s convention bureau, spoke about the Gauteng province. She also expressed her excitement over the decision that Johannesburg will host the SA Brand Summit in 2019. “It is important for Johannesburg and Gauteng, not only to attract delegates from all over the world to our province, but also because we see the Summit as a neat addition to position our region as a center for new ideas for the future of South Africa.
“It is clear that without a strong and attractive brand image, our country will be taken by others on the continent who are working hard to reduce our market share of the lucrative tourist market and FDI. We need to find innovative ways to overcome the negative perceptions South Africa and help create a climate that will generate more positive messages to foster goodwill for our country. “
