The runaway fires that are currently wreaking havoc in the Western Cape and Overberg make one realize once again how insignificant we are against the elements. The flames are fueled by strong winds blowing at 100Km / hour.
Assistance is being deployed from other municipalities across the Western Cape to these areas and the fire department is facing extremely dangerous conditions to bring people and animals to safety and to keep the fire under control. The three chilling fires that raged in Betty’s Bay are currently under control, and so far no blaze has been reported. The region is currently facing another challenge due to water and electricity outages due to the fire damage.

The Western Cape with its Wine, Garden and Whale Routes are very popular tourist destinations in South Africa and offer numerous accommodation facilities in these regions. Major damage was done to property and many homes were completely destroyed. The damage to the ecology is heartbreaking. Our hearts go out to all who have suffered losses and our prayers are with everyone who puts their services and life on the line to put the flames under control.
