I can still remember the grace my father prayed when we were children:
“Father bless this meal – let us never forget Your name – Amen”
Then we will all say, “Amen” and fall away and eat. Mom just made food for everyone in advance and you WILL eat everything. It was actually such carefree days – such happy times. We lived in love with each other and would not dare to be disrespectful. We just wouldn’t, it was just that and done.
Dr Abel Pienaar states in his article, Pray and eat the following: “We need to rediscover our unity, our respect and reverence for one another – regardless of species, race, class or gender. We need to be respectful of one another. To understand again that we are co-responsible for each other’s survival. This applies to how we deal with the earth’s natural resources, our eating habits, and our everyday consumption and abuse habits. And more than anything, our table must give thanks for the other life forms that have sacrificed their lives for me to eat. Animals and plants sacrificed their lives for me, I have to say thank you for that. ”
Father, please bless the food before us,
The family and friends next to us,
And the togetherness and love between us,
Deuteronomy 8:10 “When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the Lord thy God for the good land which he hath given thee.”
